Simple Folk Quartet
Friday April 25th
Simple Folk is a quartet that showcases many of the classic to contemporary hits from the folk, folk-rock and Americana genres. Based in Asheville, NC, Simple Folk has performed in many venues over a three-state area, Simple Folk has become popular not only for its "unplugged" versions of so many hits from the past seventy years but also its onstage charisma and comedic charm. The Simple Folk group also plays as a five- or six-piece band. The quartet will include founding member Joey Moore, percussion; Janet Cress, accordion/hand percussion; Tall Paul Christoph, lead guitar/mandolin; and Scott Eggert, bass. All members are also vocalists.

TKO is a band that plays in the vein of Americana, Beatles, Neil Young, Guess Who, Peter Frampton, Glen Campbell, Allman Brothers, Doobies, etc. Jimmy Tatum, guitar/slide guitar/vocals; Mike Karaman, vocals/harmonica; and Ray Owens, six and 12 string guitars/harmonica/vocals make (AKA TKO) bring their smooth vocal harmonies, tasty guitar and harmonica work, and cool vintage rock and blues set list to “one of the coolest venues in these hills, Saluda Outfitters.” Enjoy a wide variety of favorite tunes from times gone by but not too far in the rear view!

The Gilkey Cattle Company is a four-piece band with a love of the country greats. However, they mix a little Eagles, Marshall Tucker and other favorites in their sets. Home-based in Rutherfordton, the ensemble focuses on classic country from the 90s to 2000s. Veteran guitarist/singer Garry Cuthbertson joins up with Kate Durham on fiddle, Randy Fish on guitar/vocals, and Tony Dente on drums/vocals.

R. Rene Russell

A Charleston musician who settled in the mountains of WNC, R. Rene Russell provides a show that looks at the journey of her life. Playing mostly originals, she flushes out a three-hour show with favorite cover tunes. Her “My Journey So Far Through My Song Titles,” reveals the path she has taken to find herself. With songs entitled “Once Upon A New Time,” “Who We Really Are” and “Choices,” her songs have allowed her to question her values, beliefs and spirituality while searching for that “Spec of Truth, The Key” that will unlock and reveal her sou’s purpose. Rene enthralls her audiences with her percussive 12-string way of playing music and her bass style thumping, claw-hammer pulling, finger-picking techniques.

This 5-piece ensemble brings a unique sound to their take on old classics from the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Beatles to newer groups such as the Steel Drivers and Chris Stapleton. Exceptional vocals and harmonies are backed by electric violin, keyboards, congas, guitars and mandolins.

The Millrites is an Upstate South Carolina band that provides an eclectic mix of music genres in their performances. This quartet performs originals and covers from the 60s to the 2020s. With a lot of history performing everything from rhythm and blues to “beer drinking music,” the members has adapted to each other’s playing styles to bring an enhanced sound to the stage. The group consists of songwriters Roy Smith, Jr., lead guitar/vocals; Scott Scheel, rhythm guitar/vocals; Brandon Kimbrell, drums/percussion; and John Moseley, bass.

Izzi Hughes of Asheville, is a singer/songwriter who started her career before graduating high school, making a name for herself on the local music scene. Returning to her roots after college, Izzi has continued to share her original songs. She accompanies herself on guitar while performing both as a solo artist and in bands. Her music spans various genres and decades.

Crystal Fountains Quartet is an Americana, folk, bluegrass band from the Charlotte and Brevard areas. The band plays traditional bluegrass as well as original music with elements of jazz, blues and rock. Pulling from a variety of influences, the band places an emphasis on vocal harmonies reminiscent of the Delmore Brothers, Stanley Brothers and the Lovin Brothers.

Two Step Two

The Western NC duo Two Step Two (Marc Brown & Rick Reles) deliver soulful vocal harmonies to an eclectic batch of tunes you may have heard, may have forgotten, but will be glad to hear again. Their influences span Americana, Roots, Acoustic Blues, Traditional, Jug Band, Old Country…..or as they put it: “from Lead Belly to (almost) Led Zeppelin”. Soundscape is rounded out with 6 and 12 string guitars, resonator, mandolin, percussion and harmonicas. Musical journeys for this duo are from the Maine seacoast to over 30 years in Mid-west show bands.

The JackTown Ramblers perform bluegrass, string band, swing and gypsy jazz arrangements all in one amazingly entertaining performance. This group of like-minded veteran musicians remain young at heart and love to fill their performances with both great music and a lot of fun. Powerful instrumentation and vocals are the centerpiece of their sound. Their material selection pulls from a wide variety of genres, artists and styles. Come meet this extremely likeable band, Gabriel Wiseman, Shannan Leasure, Brett Setzer and Mike Street. You might even get to autograph the JTR Van.

Quickchester

Quickchester is a 5-piece band based in Asheville that brings its genre-fluid style to the stage. The band’s music is a blend that ranges from Indie rock and folk to good ol’ rock’n’roll. Paul Quick and Mark Chester (thus the name) began as a duo more than a decade ago playing folk music and a handful of original songs in coffee shops and open mics. Today the band has a library of more than 30 original songs and some 100 covers. Paul plays lead electric guitar while Mark backs on acoustic rhythm guitar and both are contributing songwriters. The band is rounded out by Kyley Byrd on three-part harmonies and flute; Stu Way on drums; and J.D. Smith holding down rhythm.

The Pace Brothers is a duo of singing/songwriting siblings whose music captures the audience from the get-go. Jadon Pace, the younger of the two, lives in Saluda, while his brother Holden resides in Hendersonville. When they join forces for a gig, they bring tremendous vocals to the stage as they share an eclectic mix of country, Americana and gospel tunes as well as originals.

Next of Kin is a rock band from the Upstate of South Carolina, consisting of four members: Jason Martin, Adam Caston, Isaiah Caston and Russell Milner. The four are seasoned players, all being raised in musical households. Together they play well-known songs from the past and present consisting of strong musicianship and crowd interaction. The band mates say they strive to leave the audience wanting more.

Echo Operative is a Spartanburg-based party band that plays a variety of music including rock, country and pop primarily from the 70s to 2000s, plus some of the more current tunes. This 5-piece ensemble includes multi-talented musicians. On the guitar and lead vocals is Dr. Joseph Boscia. Dr. Sue Boscia plays harmonica and lead vocals, as well. Backing them are Rob Gillum on drums, Chris Bryant on keyboards and harmony vocals, and Henry Stein on bass and harmony vocals.

His current band, 'Saints and Sinners', are well known for their highly danceable grooves!

Steel Creek is one of the ultimate bar bands in the Western NC and Upstate SC area.
