Fairlight and The Magick
Friday August 1st
The origin story of Fairlight and the Magick is pretty mundane and hardly uncommon. The band came together through connections made through informal jams, broken-up bands and a Craigslist ad. The pieces started coming together in the aftermath of Helene. The members of the band came from all directions; New Jersey, Colorado, Florida and Charlotte to make WNC their home. Once the band members were all in the same room, the power and soulfulness of Fairlight De Torres' voice was astonishing. The mission of the band was clear—to develop a sound and style to fit Fairlight’s amazing skill. The first thing that became apparent was the rhythm section of Jeff Rubin on drums and Walter Anderson on bass can bring a high level of skill, feeling, and groove to whatever they play. Whether the song is a slow blues, driving rock, funky or soulful…there is ALWAYS deep pocket there. The first few steps of the band were tentative. However, after a few practices, something magical happened…well, OK… Magick happened. The band found its footing and David Harris started turning up the guitar amp loud enough to let the guitar really sing. The result is a musical stew of funky soul and psychedelia that is rooted in the blues and is always played with a lot of feeling. This band means it! Bluesy psychedelic soul!

Mutual Love Club is a husband/wife duo (Danny and Alpine Clayton) from Black Mountain. They play a mix of Americana, rock’n’roll, R&B and traditional. Their set lists include both covers and originals. The duo records three separate projects: Mutual Love Club; Swim Meet (Indie/College Rock) and Martha’s Freedom (rock/rhythm and blues).

Fayssoux & The Bluegrass Messengers are a quartet from Spartanburg area. Songwriter and recording artist Fayssoux Starling McLean leads the band with musicians Steve Garrett on bass, Steve Campbell on banjo and Wes Wyatt on guitar. The band brings the best in bluegrass.

Alma Russ Trio

Saturday, Aug. 9, 7-10 p.m. | Alma Russ Trio hails from Mill Spring where she lives when not on the road performing. Alma is known as a serious contributor to the country roots music resurgence. She brings her own unique style to the tunes of country greats like Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline. Trigger, Saving Country Music, said: “The sound of Alma Russ is less an attempt at impersonation, and more an amalgam of many great singers of country and roots interwoven into an original approach…” A singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, fiddle and banjo, she is joined by a fluid group of band mates presenting a mix of country gold, Appalachian tradition, and Americana soul. For this performance her trio includes electric guitar player Adam Rose of Asheville and upright bassist Caroline Miller of Maggie Valley.

As an entertainer, she enjoys sharing a large mix of tunes that are familiar to the audience and encourages people to sing along. Some of her favorites include Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, Marshal Tucker and more. In addition to her solo work, she keeps a busy schedule in the music world as lead singer in the popular Moore Junction Band.

Laural Canyon East brings its trademark folk-rock vibe to the stage. This Asheville-based band’s goal is to provide a musical experience that came out of the Laurel Canyon in the ‘60s and ‘70s. They will bring the sound of favorites like CSN, The Eagles, The Byrds, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks and so much more. Band mates are lead singer Sophia Phillips, but all band members join in on vocals. Playing lead guitar is Paul Quick with John Thigpen on bass, John Friday on rhythm guitar and Stu Way on drums.

Tasha Ann Band features country and Christian singer, 18-year-old Tasha Ann. This young musician is graced with powerful vocals for her age. Her vocal tones range from the sweetest whispers to the raspy, soulful growls of a more mature singer. Like many country singers, she got her start in church and whether singing praise songs or her favorite country tunes, or sharing her original songs, she gives each performance 100 percent, as does her band mates Dale, Eric, Craig and Liam.

Echo Operative Band

Echo Operative is a 5-piece ensemble hailing from the Spartanburg area. Listed as a party band, the group plays a variety of genres including rock, country and pop, primarily from the 70s to 2000s. As well, they engage the audience with some more current and popular tunes. Lead vocalist and guitarist is Dr. Joseph Boscia. He is joined by his wife, Dr. Sue Boscia, on harmonica and lead vocals, as well. Backing the husband/wife team is Rob Gillum on drums, Chris Bryant on keyboard and harmony vocals, and Henry Stein on bass and harmony vocals.

Saluda Summer Sundays presents Around Town, a band formed by Bill Lee, a singer/songwriter who splits his time between Mount Pleasant, SC, and Tryon, NC. They perform originals and favorite covers. The bands Americana-style southern roots music often has a nod to the folk-rock legends with a hint of country. Lee, also known as Billee Seasharp also participates in The Jockey Lot Band and The Frantic Mellow. He and fellow band mates, who vary depending on who is “around town,” will bring a show you are sure to enjoy.

The Millwrites is an Upstate South Carolina band that brings an eclectic mix of musical genres to its performances. The quartet performs both originals and favorite covers from the 60s to 2020s. They like to say they offer everything from rhythm and blues to “beer drinking” music. Band mates are Roy Smith, Jr., lead guitar/vocals; Scott Scheel, rhythm guitar/vocals; Brandon Kimbrell, drums/percussion; and John Moseley, bass.

Wiregrass is a bluegrass/Americana band based in the Foothills of North Carolina. The group brings a great mix of tunes backed by guitar, banjo, dobro and mandolin and talented vocals. Band members include Jamey Harrison of Ellenboro on lead vocals/guitar; Brad Davis of Ellenboro on vocals/bass; Scott Lail of Delight on banjo/dobro/vocals; Tyler Leonard of Lawndale on lead guitar/vocals; and Jeremy Greene of Morganton on mandolin/vocals. A popular Wiregrass original is “Bluegrass and BBQ.”

Formed by Rosman's Mark Curtis with Rick Higgs, the trio is flushed out with select drummers depending on where the band travels. Steel Creek is one of the ultimate bar bands in the Western NC and Upstate SC area.

Formed as a duo in 2023 climbing to a 5-piece band of blue-collar pickers and grinners. Band members have opened for nationally known artists such as Aaron Tippin, Rhonda Vincent, Johnny Paycheck, Billy Dean, Sammy Kershaw, The Kentucky Headhunters, and most recently, American Idol's Bucky Covington. You will want to bring your dancing shoes; the band will bring the country.
